Ultimate Bourne

First things first…..I feel like the latest Bond flick truly did some major deriving from the Bourne action sequences. They were like Bourne sequences on acid. Erm, scratch that….I have no idea what acid feels llke…or may be

Bourne Ultimatum was ultra cool. It’s one of those rare movies that I saw in pin-drop silence despite the fact that I saw it with at least a couple of hundred people in the same theater. Yet, no one moved…there were no scurrying black lines headed for a loo break in my vision, no coughs or even hiccups…..though logic says that someone in the damn theater must have had some bodily motion. So conclusion drawn…this movie had my complete attention.

Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne, amnesiac super agent extraordinaire. This guy gives James Bond a complex because the things that happen to him fall somewhere in the realm of the possible (yea-ha, it is possible to jump from building to building in maybe fifteen tries?), except of course for the cockroach factor…that he and Bond have in common….they-just-don’t-die (though in all fairness, Bond has not died several more times than Bourne….and that counts for longevity). Bourne is back, more important his memory is finally back and he has some serious corrupt US government official ass-kicking to do. He finds some allies in unexpected places, tries to save some innocents and goes along his merry way, creating mayhem and destruction along the way (the fight sequence with another ‘asset’ is one of the best ever). But he also is the enlightened one and manages to infuse doubt enough in another asset to not kill him.

Matt Damon truly looks like he’s having the time of his life. Julia Stiles has thankfully a larger role here than she did in the last movie and she uses its potential to the extent it has. David Straitham is the slimy evil villain of this piece as corrupt CIA Deputy director Noah Vosen. And Joan Allen reprises her role as Pam Landy, the agent who believes Bourne was set up and wants him brought in alive, and who in turn, the evil doers in the CIA want to hang for their own crimes. The movie is filled with an energy that transcends the screen and sweeps you up in it. And is worth every dollar you spent on it.

My rating: 90 on a scale of 100

  1. Yea, I loved it too, and I can’t say I agree with others critisism in regards to the “queasycam” as it’s been so lovingly dubbed. Where would it rank among the other films you’ve seen this year?

  2. Yeah, this was a great movie. That fight sequence was amazing. I’m a big James Bond fan, but I have to give Bourne the upper hand on this one.

  3. I loved it. I can’t be sure but I think this may be the highest rating I’ve given a movie this year. It definitely kept me enthralled.
